With the upcoming release of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection for PS4, it looks like we’re almost there: all mainline Final Fantasy games will be playable on either PS4 or PS5. The only two titles missing from the list are Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIII.
Final Fantasy XI is an ancient MMO that’s still playable on PC and mobile, but is unlikely to be re-released on current consoles. Final Fantasy XIII, however, is playable on Xbox Series X|S, thanks to Microsoft’s backwards compatibility efforts.
The curious thing is that Square Enix hasn’t released a remastered Final Fantasy XIII collection, despite the saga being made up of three separate games. Fans have been speculating for years why this hasn’t happened yet, but it looks like we’ll never know.
