We’ve known for a while that Daisuke Ishiwatari, the creator of the Guilty Gear series, is a huge Queen fan. Now we have even more proof of that with the reveal of Bedman’s true name in Guilty Gear Strive.
Bedman’s true name is Romeo F. Neumann, which is a reference to Queen singer Freddie Mercury’s cats, Romeo and Delilah. This adds to the already extensive list of Queen and Freddie Mercury references throughout the Guilty Gear series, including Sol Badguy’s real name Frederick Bulsara, which combines the first name of Freddie Mercury’s stage name with the singer’s real last name.
The Bedman family’s last name is also a reference to famous mathematician Carl Neumann. It’s clear that Daisuke Ishiwatari’s love for Queen is still going strong after 20+ years of working on Guilty Gear. Does this mean Sol had Bedman and Delilah as pets in a past life? We may never know, but one thing is for sure – the Queen references in Guilty Gear Strive will keep us guessing and entertained for years to come.
