For 27 years, the Mario Kart 64 speedrunning community has been searching for a way to pull off a skip in the Bowser’s Castle course. After a lot of hard work and dedication, the skip was finally pulled off in March 2023 by speedrunner Forest64. Since then, two other speedrunners have managed to hit the skip and shave off fractions of a second from their time. YouTube user Abyssoft has an entire video breaking down the skip, the tech behind it, and how multiple speedrunners have suddenly been able to utilize it after all these years. Speedruns and skips are a skill and patience that many of us don’t have, but it’s always a delight to watch someone pull off a seemingly impossible feat. With the skip now found, the Mario Kart 64 speedrunning community will have to wait and see if anyone can use it to beat the current world record.
