Arc System Works have come a long way since their humble beginnings as a small arcade game developer. From developing licensed fighting games to creating their own titles that have reached new heights, the studio is now in a much different position than they were a decade ago.
Recently, IGN sat down with ArcSys CEO Minoru Kidooka for an interview where he discussed their plans for the future and what they want to do with BlazBlue. Kidooka revealed that the company was looking to be aggressive about collaborating with other IP owners, with talks already underway to try and get new projects off the ground.
When it comes to BlazBlue, Kidooka affirmed that they are not done with the series, but they also don’t want it to directly compete with Guilty Gear Strive, which is their main focus right now. He also noted that they want to make an impact similar with the transition from 2D to 3D for Guilty Gear Xrd when they make the next BlazBlue.
Despite the studio taking on more projects than ever, the CEO made it clear that they still haven’t expanded all that much in terms of manpower, with ArcSys only employing about 200 people. This is why they’ve partnered up with external developers like Eighting to help lighten their load.
Overall, it looks like fans are going to be waiting quite a bit longer for a new BlazBlue entry, as Guilty Gear Strive is the first ArcSys original title to sell 1 million copies and a third season of DLC already in the works.
