Dragon Ball FighterZ has been a huge success for both Arc System Works and Bandai Namco, leaving fans of the world’s most popular manga wondering if they are next in line to get the fighting game treatment. Recently, IGN had the opportunity to interview Minoru Kidooka, the CEO of ArcSys, to ask him directly about the possibility of a One Piece fighting game.
Kidooka was unable to confirm or deny the possibility of a One Piece fighting game, but he did state that it was not outside the realm of possibility. He also stressed that ArcSys is a small company, with only around 200 employees, and that they have to be careful about the projects they take on.
The studio is already working on Granblue Fantasy: Versus and the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Dragon Ball FighterZ, as well as post-launch support for Guilty Gear Strive and DNF Duel.
With the successful business relationship between Bandai Namco and ArcSys, it would make sense for them to follow up on Dragon Ball FighterZ’s success with another anime-based fighting game. Whether or not that will be a Dragon Ball FighterZ sequel, One Piece or something else entirely is still unknown.
The full interview with Kidooka can be found on IGN, where he discusses the studio’s future plans, the success of Strive, BlazBlue and more.
